Laser hair removal is a medical procedure which uses highly concentrated light beams to penetrate the skin and target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. During a laser hair removal treatment, a pulsed laser light passes through the skin and is absorbed by melanin in the hair follicle. The heat damages the follicles and inhibits future hair growth without affecting any of the surrounding tissue.
Those undergoing laser hair removal can mostly expect just a feeling like they are experiencing a snap of an elastic band against their skin for each pulse of light emitted by the laser device.
Generally speaking, most people need at least six laser hair removal sessions spaced 8-10 weeks apart in order to see noticeable results. However, this can vary greatly depending on individual circumstances – such as hair thickness, coarseness, colour and skin tone.
